A company that consists of a grouping of businesses from unrelated streams.

A company which owns a number of other companies with widely diversified activities.Conglomerates go in and out of fashion. Sometimes the stock market loves them; other times it hates them and demands that they be broken up to "release shareholder value". There is never any shortage of consultants showing how this can be achieved.
