        Proof of title

In the UK, when a claimant makes a claim in respect of life assurance, he will have to provide evidence of identity and that he is entitled to the proceeds, invariably by submitting the policy document. In the event of a claim following the death of the life assured, the death certificate will also need to be submitted to the insurers by the legal representatives of the deceased.
